Foreword


The University of Hong Kong, as a premier international university in Asia, seeks to sustain and enhance its excellence as an institution of higher learning through outstanding teaching and world-class research.

Research and Scholarship aims to inform both a local and an international academic audience about research and scholarly activities at The University of Hong Kong by providing details of ongoing research projects conducted within the University, the research and scholarly outputs (including both publications and non-print materials) of academic staff, and the titles of the research degree theses of successful PhD and MPhil candidates.  This edition covers information for 1998-1999.

This publication records research and scholarly activities irrespective of whether or not they received dedicated funding support in the form of internal or external grants.
