Investigator(s):Dr. McGhee S.M., Dr. Adab P., Dr. Castan Cameo S.
Department:Community Medicine
Source(s) of Funding:Block Grant Earmarked for Research
Start Date:July 1999
Abstract:
In Hong Kong, where there is a mixed medical economy and multiple providers, local data is particularly important in the decision making process. Policy makers need access to such information before making a long-term commitment of resources. Our Department has been working on and investigating many aspects of cervical cancer screening and this research would contribute further to understanding the present situation in Hong Kong.

Abstract:
To identify the prevalence of previously unidentified morbidity and risk factors in a vulnerable group of over 60 year old people in Shamshuipo; to assess the effectiveness of the proposed strategy and identify potential improvements in a) reaching the target group, b) achieving attendance of the target group at the clinic, c) achieving follow-up of those identified to be at risk of health problems; to model the likely impact of the clinic on future morbidity and mortality in this group, taking into account the results of objectives above to value that impact in terms of health gain and resource costs.
