To study both general and specific problems relating to personnel management in public and private organisations with a view of increasing management effectiveness and efficiency. Research designs will be adopted on individual project basis.

Project Title:Modelling Compositional Processes
Investigator(s):Bacon-Shone JH
Department:Social Sciences Research Ctr
Source(s) of Funding:Small Project Funding
Start Date:12/2008
Abstract:
The objective is to show the feasibility of building statistical models of mixing processes that allow for spatial and temporal variation in the mixing process (additive and subtractive) and can handle constraints. One example of this is the formation of minerals, where there are additive and subtractive processes that vary over time, sometimes with constraints on the composition. Previously, models of this sort were purely mathematical and did not account for random variation. This has the potential to significantly improve the models used. These models are not restricted to geology, but can be applied to many physical, biological and even social scientific processes where mixing takes place.
