| Abstract: |
| To describe with scientific accuracy the health status of infants in four different population groups analyzing the effect of congenital, as well as external factors, including infections, mode of feeding, socioeconomic situation etc. using mortality, morbidity and growth as an objective measure of the health status. Risk factors are determined with the aim of defining optimal intervention measures to be considered in future health planning; to transfer knowledge and methods within the medical field from institutions in Sweden to those in Pakistan. A major aspect is to direct and run the various parts of the research project in such a manner that the responsibility is carried out and the work performed by small teams of as a minimum one Pakistani and/or Swedish research fellow with one Pakistani and one Swedish supervisor. Due to close contacts within each small team and with the major activity in Lahore and regular visits of the team members in both directions gradually more and more of research capability is being built up in Lahore. |
