Abstract:
To demonstrate that optimism, TDM congruence and expectation-outcome congruence are associated with better outcomes (operationalized as more satisfaction, less psychological morbidity, better subject health, lower social morbidity and fewer symtoms/better Qualtiy of Life), and, where there is outcome incongruence, that self-efficacy is inversely associated with the specified outcomes; to model the roles of regret and disappointment and how they relate to decision choice and TDM preference. (i.e. Does outcome incongruence lead to more regret among men with high self efficacy? Is disappointment associated with less participation congruence?); to incorporate individual meaning and anxiety regarding PC into the Lam & Fielding model, upstream of the decisional process to explore the influences these factors exert on subsequent treatment choice and later adjustment and QoL experience.

Abstract:
To examine the health outcomes of various population-based mammography screening strategies in Hong Kong Chinese women. (efficacy and effectiveness); to compare and analyse the cost-effectiveness of different mammography screening strategies. (cost-effectiveness); to test the hypothesis that unlike in Western populations, mammorgraphy screening is not cost-effective in Hong Kong. (hypothesis testing); to establish a set of epidemiologic threshold parameters beyond which screening should be re-evaluated over time. (threshold analysis); to provide public health guidance on population-based mammorgarphy screening for Hong Kong and other populations with low breast cancer incidence.

Abstract:
To determine changes in clinically significant parameters including blood pressure and indices of obesity resulting from the introduction of the physical activity intervention; to determine which factors contribute to engagement in physical activity for each of the programs; to determine the effectiveness and durability of the introduction of both a "buddy" system and the feedback effect of pedometers on physical activity and cardiorespiratory fitness changes over 12 months of intensive intervention; to further develop our understanding of the relationship between physical activity and chronic disorders in the local elderly population; to explore the relationship between the different measures of physical activity in the local population; to determine the cost-effectiveness of these two intervention programs.
